Arizona Cardinals name Ryan Lindley starting QB vs. Seahawks

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said during his Monday press conference that Ryan Lindley will start at quarterback in Week 16 at Seattle, but the team will have a package of plays for rookie Logan Thomas as well, according to the Arizona Republic.

Lindley, who was released by Arizona on Aug. 25 and re-signed on Nov. 22 after starting quarterback Carson Palmer went down with a season-ending ACL injury, won the job largely because he has more experience than Thomas, Arians said.

“I think he’s a little bit more ready right now having been back in the system for a while,” Arians said via ESPN. “Like I said before, I think Logan’s going to be a great player. Sometimes you can put guys in positions to fail. I want him to succeed when he plays.

Before Thursday, Lindley hadn’t thrown a regular-season pass since 2012, when he was 1-3 as a starter for the Cardinals as a rookie. He completed 52 percent of his passes and averaged 4.4 yards per attempt. He didn’t throw a touchdown in six games compared to seven interceptions.

After Arians informed Lindley he’d start, he told the former San Diego State star to enjoy it.

“Go sling it, baby. There’s a reason you’re here,” Arians told Lindley in private when he named him the starter.

Arians went with Lindley over Thomas after Drew Stanton suffered a knee sprain against the Rams in Week 15. Lindley managed to keep his team ahead, completing 4 of 10 passes for 30 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in relief.

Arians said Thomas’ package for Sunday will be the same one that’s been in place for about four weeks, and it’ll use Thomas’ running and passing abilities.

“It’s all stuff we’ve done,” Arians said. “Whether we’ve shown it this year or not, it’s been practiced all year.”

We salute Andrew Hawkins for protesting against police brutality and standing up for families who’ve lost a loved one at the hands of law enforcement. The shirt he wore honored Tamir Rice (12 Years Old) and John Crawford (22 Years Old) who  were shot and killed by police in Ohio: http://bit.ly/12Ya422

Following the game, Cleveland Police Union demanded that the Browns punish Hawkins and released the following disturbing statement: “It’s pretty pathetic when athletes think they know the law. They should stick to what they know best on the field. The Cleveland Police protect and serve the Browns stadium and the Browns organization owes us an apology” - http://bit.ly/1wbeHS9
